Bengaluru: The Congress Legislature Party on Saturday unanimously elected DK Shivakumar as its new leader at a meeting held at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, with the oath ceremony scheduled for the evening of June 3 at Lok Bhavan.

Siddaramaiah Steps Aside, Resolution Passed Unanimously

Outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stepped down as CLP leader and moved a resolution authorising the party’s central leadership to decide his successor. The resolution was seconded by Dr G Parameshwara and passed unanimously by the legislators. The CLP also formally expressed gratitude to Siddaramaiah for his eight years of service to Karnataka and the Congress party.

Shivakumar to Stake Claim at Raj Bhavan

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, who oversaw the proceedings, briefed the media after the meeting, confirming that Shivakumar would immediately head to Raj Bhavan to stake his claim as Chief Minister. Venugopal said the party remained a united family and expressed confidence that Congress would return to power in Karnataka in 2028 with the support of all its leaders.

Siddaramaiah Continues Until New Arrangements Are Made

Siddaramaiah had stepped down as Karnataka Chief Minister on May 28. While Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot accepted his resignation and dissolved the Council of Ministers, Siddaramaiah has been asked to continue in a caretaker capacity until alternative arrangements are finalised. He had earlier travelled to Delhi to meet Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, and has declined a Rajya Sabha nomination, preferring to remain active in Karnataka politics.

Astrologer Recommends June 3 at 5:15 PM for Oath

Astrologer Aaradhya, who advises Shivakumar, recommended that he take the oath of office on June 3 at 5:15 pm, a timing that has been incorporated into the official swearing-in plan at Lok Bhavan.
