Dhanbad, April 26: Dr VSV Prasad of Dhanbad and Dr Vinay Dhandhania of Ranchi were elected chairman and secretary respectively of the Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India ( RSSDI) Jharkhand chapter for three years new term.

At a  meeting of the Jharkhand chapter of RSSDI in Dhanbad today, Dr VSV Prasad was unanimously selected as the new chairman while Dr Dhandhania of Ranchi continued as secretary for another term.

The post of RSSDI  Jharkhand chapter was vacant following the election of outgoing chairman Dr NK Singh as an executive member of the RSSDI national body last year. As per the constitution of RSSDI, no individual can hold two posts at a time, so, Dr NK Singh today handed over the chairmanship to Dr VSV Prasad.

“ The outgoing committee which was elected in 2019 did not get proper opportunity to implement the RSSDI programme for the last two years due to the Covid-19 menace.  But now a new committee under Dr Prasad and Dr Dhandhania would be able to implement programmes”, said  Dr Singh, who is the first physician of  Jharkhand to be elected as an executive member of the RSSDI national body.

A doctor of Deoghar was also elected to the national body but entered through East Zone reserved seat. But Dr NK Singh was elected from the national seat.

The RSSDI is a major institution for diabetes research in India. At RSSDI Jharkhand chapter meeting Dr Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Dr BK Singh, Dr Vikshit Jaipuria, Dr Priyadarshi and Dr Sunil also addressed.
