Ranchi, Feb. 15: Former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad was shifted to RIMS hours after he was convicted by the special CBI court of Sudhanshu Kumar Shashi in fodder scam case no. RC 47 A/96 pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 139.35 crores from Doranda treasury.
After conviction, Lalu Prasad pleaded before the court to shift him to RIMS on health grounds. Referring to his age Lalu Prasad urged that he was suffering from multiple diseases and required constant treatment.
But the court rejected his appeal and said that let the jail authority of Birsa Munda Central Jail decide whether he needed to be shifted to RIMS.
Lalu Prasad was first taken to the Hotwar jail from where he was referred to RIMS where arrangements of his stay at a paying ward A 11 was made. A large number of party workers and leaders turned up at RIMS namely former MLA Bhola Yadav, Abdul Bari Siddique, Jai Prakash Narayan, Sanjay Prasad Yadav and others.
Security was tightened at RIMS and a seven members medical team was constituted by the RIMS to take care of the health of Lalu Prasad.
Dr Vidyapati will head the medical team whose other members are Dr CB Sharma, Dr DK Jha, Dr. PK Bhattacharya, cardiologist Dr Prakash, urologist Dr Arshad Jamal and nephrologist Dr Pragya Ghosh Pant.
