Hazaribag, Nov 22: Hindu saint and a member of Gau Raksha Dal in Jharkhand, 72-year-old Sant Balakpuri breathed his last at Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital this morning. He was a native of Rajasthan and was associated with the Juna Akhada.
Those from various Hindu organisations gathered at the hospital and are planning to give him samadhi as per the tradition of the sadhus.
BJP leader Sudesh Chandravanshi said Sant Balakpuri was ill for a long time. He was at first admitted to HZB Arogyam for treatment and then was discharged. When the complications returned, he was brought to SBMCH.
Sadar MLA Manish Jaiswal expressed his grief on Balakpuri’s death. “I was regularly taking information related to his health from doctors. His death is a loss for us,” he said.
Jaiswal’s media incharge Ranjan Chaudhary said he brought Balakpuri to the hospital on Oct 26 where despite being admitted as a patient, the saint was taking care of his cleanliness as well as the ward.
Social worker Neeraj Kumar said Balakpuri was a strong voice in the ‘save the cows’ campaign in the state.
