Ranchi, Oct.8: Jharkhand Police, committed to rooting out Naxalism from the state, today arrested the mastermind of a new extremist organization, New Sashastra People’s Morcha (NSPM), Umesh Giri who uses several surnames including Das and Pandey.
The arrests took place in Giridih. The police also recovered two country-made pistols and 12 cartridges from Giri’s possession.
Giridih SP Amit Renu informed about the breakthrough in a press conference at the district collectorate.
Many incidents were being carried out continuously by the NSPM in the Atka area of Bagodar and adjoining Bokaro and Hazaribagh districts. The police of all three districts were engaged in full readiness to nab the gang involved in this organization.
Explaining how the arrest was made possible, SP Renu said: “On September 27, Amit Kumar Tiwari, a resident of Palganj of Pirtand police station area, close to Umesh Giri, Rajesh Kumar Mahato of Bokaro district, Krishna Kumar Mahato, a resident of Ghutwali of Dumri, and others were arrested. For the arrest of the mastermind of the organization, raids were being done regularly in many districts of Bihar, West Bengal, and Maharashtra besides Giridih and its adjoining area. Due to the pressure of raids, information was received about the appearance of Umesh Giri in the Bagodar Vishnugarh Gorhar area. Umesh Giri was arrested from Besmail forest of Bagodar police station area by the raid team formed under the leadership of Saria Bagodar SDPO Naushad Alam.”
Presenting a list of crimes committed by Giri, SP Renu explained the ferocity of the extremist nabbed.
“He has committed many crimes. Some of the prominent crimes include the kidnapping of Shamsher Alam from the hospital under construction in the Bagodar police station area for not paying the levy, opening fire on Mukhiya Lalan Mehta, robbing money from the mini bank operator going to his village by withdrawing money from the ban, firing at Bagodardih petrol pump to spread panic of organization, firing at Tara Punjab Line Hotel in Atka and firing on four-wheeler parked outside the Mukhiya’s house besides others,” he said,
