New Delhi, Oct 28: The Gujarat government announced a relief package of ? 630.34 crore on Friday for farmers who suffered losses due to heavy rains in monsoon. The move has come ahead of Assembly polls likely to be held by the end of the year.
The package was cleared in the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and is expected to benefit eight lakh farmers in 2,554 villages across 14 districts, according to officials.
The package was announced post a loss-assessment survey in 14 districts: Chhotaudepur, Narmada, Panchmahal, Navsari, Valsad, Dang, Tapi, Surat, Kutch, Junagadh, Morbi, Porbandar, Anand and Kheda.
According to an official announcement, farmers will get compensation of 6,800 per hectare, up to a maximum of two hectares, as part of the package if crop loss—except for banana plantations—was equal to or greater than 33 percent owing to severe rain during the state’s last Kharif season.
