Gumla’s Asha Kiran Barla to take part in 4th Asian Youth Athletics Championship final

Ranchi, Oct 14: Asha Kiran Barla from Gumla will be running in the final of the 800-metre event on Saturday in the 4th Asian Youth Athletics Championship to be held in Kuwait. She will represent India and will be competing with athletes from Indonesia, Iraq, Sri Lanka and Syria.

During the World Under 20 Athletics held in Kali, Colombia from August 2 to 7, Asha reached the semi-finals in the 800-metre event with a timing of 2:06.86s.

In terms of statistics, Asha clocked 2:06.78 seconds in 800m, while the Youth Asia Athletics 800m girls’ record is 2:09.03 seconds. Asha receives training from Ashu Bhatia at Bhatia Academy in Bokaro.

Jharkhand Sports Director Sarojini Lakra, President of Jharkhand Athletics Association Madhukant Pathak and other members and officials of the department have wished her the best for the final.
