Hazaribag, July 19: During renovation work of a temple in Mangarh of Chouparan, a Shivling was found while digging the soil. Labourers said as they were digging the soil, a loud unusual sound came when their shovel hit some object underneath. This made the temple committee members and others ensure digging in a proper way to take out the object. To their surprise, it was a black stone ancient Shivling.
However, the recovery of Shivling here is not new. A large number of ancient structures ranging from idols of Hindu gods to relics of Buddhism have been found here time-to-time.
Mangarh, Daihar and Sohra are places where some big structures, including ancient temples and Buddhist stupas are lying underneath. Recently a team comprising of experts from IIT-ISM and Viswa Bharti University Bengal conducted an advanced survey of these areas using modern technology to know what is present inside the earth here. They confirmed big structures under the earth in vast areas.
Villager Srikant Yadav said they want more research work as well as digging to take out the buried structures. This will not only confirm the association with the Buddhist circuit but will confirm this as an important place for Hindus as well. Chouparan is situated on GT road and so this was a well-developed place in ancient times. What is needed here is the excavation of the area by the Archeological Survey of India to get all claims established.
