Jamshedpur, April 27: The relentless heatwave which is continuing in various parts of Jharkhand for approximately one month is expected to continue for another 72 hours, said IMD officials today.
Weathermen at IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre said that heatwave conditions would prevail in Ranchi, Giridih, Koderma, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Dhanbad, Garhwa and Palamau region during the next three days.
“The state is experiencing unusual heat this year in absence of any rainfall activity. Not a single Nor’wester activity took place so far this year resulting in a Celsius surge. We are expecting that the heatwave conditions would continue for another 72- hours,” said an official at Ranchi Met Centre.
Several states of eastern India, including West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha, are in the grip of a heatwave.
“A dry north-westerly wind is dominating over most parts of Jharkhand. People should prefer to stay indoors to avoid loo, the hot wind which blows in the plans and which causes sunstroke,” said a senior Met official.
He said in the absence of rain and dry weather conditions, the heatwave might get extended into early May, the peak summer month.
Data suggested that Godda recorded the highest maximum temperature on Tuesday with the local Met observatory recording 44.4 degrees Celsius.
The maximum reading in capital Ranchi has touched an oppressive 40 degrees Celsius while Daltonganj, Deoghar and Jamshedpur recorded over 43 degrees Celsius during the past 24 hours.
