Ranchi, Aug 21: Rainfall all over the state due to the depression over the northern Bay has disrupted normal life. The past 24 hours saw continuous rainfall all over Jharkhand, which is expected to continue all week. In all districts, the impact of the Bay of Bengal’s low pressure zone was seen. Notably, the Meteorological Department had warned everyone to be on guard in Thursday’s forecast.

As a result, water logging was seen in the lower parts of the capital Ranchi. Panchsheel Nagar, Ratu Road, Lower Chutia, Kokar, Harmu, Hindpiri, Tiril, Buti Basti, Piska More, Pandra, and Kantatoli saw the roads flooded with both rain and drain.

Meanwhile, several trees have fallen that resulted in disrupted traffic and power cuts throughout the day on Saturday in Ranchi. A tree toppled in front of the Ranchi University Gate as a result of the wind and heavy rain. On Ranchi’s Bariatu Road, a second tree collapsed in the middle of the street close to the Girls High School. This has caused the flow of traffic to stop. In Morhabadi Ground in Ranchi, numerous trees have also fallen as a result of the severe wind.

Other locations where traffic slowed down because of fallen trees include Suvidha Mart on Bariatu Road, Dhurwa, close to the site of the former Namkum police station, Saheed Chowk, and Hardag on Ranchi-Khunti Road.

At least four members of Jharkhand Rajya Vidyalaya Rasoiya (Cook) Sangh, who were on an indefinite dharna near Raj Bhavan, were injured after a branch of a tree fell on them, the treasurer of the association Anita Devi claimed on Saturday.

Air services were disrupted due to rain and strong winds. Train and bus traffic was also badly affected. Two flights have been cancelled till 2 pm due to bad weather on Saturday, an official at Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi said.

The Director of Birsa Munda Airport K L Agrawal said the flight service remained affected due to continuous rain. He said Indigo has cancelled its flights for Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Patna, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Bengaluru due to rainfall. Several trains from Jharkhand have also been cancelled.

On the other hand, there was a power failure in many areas of the capital Ranchi since morning. Due to the storm and rain, the electricity department had cut off the power. Sources claimed that around 11000 current was being grounded due to a transformer falling in the field near Ranchi airport.

The fall of some of the trees on overhead wire has also disrupted the power supply causing problems in recharging inverters and mobile batteries operating water pumps to fill water in their overhead water tanks. As the power supply remained disrupted, people who were confined inside their houses had problems with day-to-day work.

Meteorological Department Chief, Abhishek Anand said that there may be heavy rain in the next few hours in Chatra, East Singhbhum and Koderma districts of the state. Lightning can also fall with rain and strong winds will also blow, wind speed can be up to 40 to 50 kilometers per hour.
