Ranchi, March 31: State’s first state-of-the-art trauma centre at Rajendra Institute of Medical Science which has been built at a cost of Rs 64 crores, is yet to start its full-fledged operation due to a lack of manpower and the absence of a Central air supply system and vacuum system required during surgeries.
HOD of Critical care at RIMS Dr Pradeep Bhattacharya said that the new trauma centre is almost ready, but due to the absence of a Central air supply system and vacuum system which play a crucial role during surgery, the NTC has not started its full-fledged services for which it was built.
“The tender for the same was floated two times but no bid came from the bidders. Now the tender has been released again for the third time with some modifications and hopefully, this time both the systems will be equipped so that the proper functioning of the NTC will start,” Dr Pradeep said.
RIMS Medical Superintendent Dr Hiren Birua said that the management meeting has been held regarding the supply of manpower. For this, outsourcing agency Masers Sons Facility has been selected. In the initial phase, the building is set to start with 50 beds consisting of the ground, first and second floors.
As soon as the number of corona patients decreased, it was inspected by RIMS officials on March 1. The officials had also made a public statement that it would be fully started within two to three weeks. 30 days have passed, but it will still take time for the trauma centre to start.
The New Trauma Centre was inaugurated on 14th July 2019 in the presence of the then Chief Minister Raghubar Das, Health Minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi and Union Minister of State for Power RK Singh. Divided into red, green and yellow zones, this four-floor trauma centre has state-of-the-art equipment as well as ICU facilities.
Apart from ICU, ventilators, there is also a system for radiology and pathology examination. 160 staff has been requisitioned for all four floors of the new trauma centre. These include 80 nurses and 40-40 ward boys and sweepers.
