New Delhi, July 13: The 16th round of Corps Commander-level negotiations between China and India is likely to be held on July 17. Lt Gen A Sengupta, commander of the Fire and Fury Corps, will represent the Indian side.
The purpose of the conference will be to talk about disengaging from conflict zones along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh. Such a meeting was last conducted on March 11th.
After a bloody altercation in the Pangong lake areas, the troops of the two countries engaged in a border standoff on May 5, 2020. Following the battles in the Galwan Valley on June 15, 2020, the standoff intensified.
The two countries’ military leaders and diplomats are currently involved in negotiations to address their border disputes, according to an announcement made by S Jaishankar, the external affairs minister, yesterday.
“In the last two years, we have been very clear and very effective in ensuring that no attempt to change the status quo unilaterally on the line of actual control will be done by us,” he further said.
Since the confrontation, the two nations have increased their military preparations by bringing in tens of thousands of soldiers and powerful weapons.
The two parties finished the disengagement process in the north and south banks of the Pangong lake as well as in the Gogra region last year as a result of numerous military and diplomatic discussions. Currently, each side has between 50,000 and 60,000 soldiers deployed along the LAC in the sensitive area.
