Chatra, May 24: Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups Birhor are in trouble in Pathalgada block as the land on which they are living for decades had been captured to make a base camp by a company working on a construction project of Shivpur-Kathotia rail line. Around one acre of their land has been captured to make the camp which comprises of office, space to dump construction materials as well as to keep heavy vehicles. The land has six houses of Birhor constructed under the government scheme.
Sources said Birhors are living here for several decades which is in the Kumbhka area in Nawadih village of Pathalgada block. This place is close to the railway colony and so the Ircon company has acquired Birhor’s land to make their base camp.
Local residents said the company is making rooms as well as dumping construction materials in huge quantities. Even the Stone chips unit is also set up and its operation sound is very irritating and disturbing to the villagers. What angered the villagers is that the company is taking huge mud from here to be used in the filling of the proposed rail line where tracks will be laid in the coming days. When contacted, company officials failed to react to this issue.
However, the block development officer of Pathalgada, Moni Kumari presented a tough face on this issue. “I came to know about it and soon I will issue notice to the company to keep their side and to leave the plot at its earliest,” she added.
