Ranchi, March 15: The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) has not held meetings for the last six months. As a result, policy decisions are being affected. At present, all the policy decisions are being taken by JAC Chairman Anil Kumar Mahto.
An official of JAC has said that due to non-availability of JAC board members and the resultant lack of meetings, matters related to promotion, salary of employees, along with budget matters are being affected. However, the official assured that it will not affect the upcoming matriculation-inter examinations.
JAC Chairman Mahto said that there is a committee of 21 members, wherein it is mandatory to have at least eight members for the board meeting at present. Without the presence of the Board members, a meeting cannot even be called, said the Chairman.
At present, the JAC only has seven members. The eighth member was Rana Pratap Singh of Nilambar-Pitamber University, whose membership expired a month before. Chairman Mahto said that due to the lack of members, the meetings of the JAC board have not been held for the last 6 months.
Regarding the appointment of the members in the Board, Mahto said that four letters have been sent and the appointment is soon to be done by the state government. After this, a meeting of the Board will be held, Mahto added. He further said that policy decisions are being affected due to lack of board meetings, however, it will not have an effect on the 10th and 12th examinations that are soon to begin. He further added that the board meetings will be held after the conclusion of 10th and 12th exams.
Chairman Mahto said that members of the board include JAC Chairman, Vice Chairman, three MLAs and two Education Directors currently. He said that the preparation for the Matriculation and Inter examination has been completed. Question papers related to the exam have been printed. The question papers have been transported to different Treasuries. However, the number of exam centers will be decided within the next few days.
However, the chairman added that the number of centers may increase this time, due to Coronavirus and Covid guidelines. Talking of the last year, Mahto said that last time the matriculation and inter examinations were conducted in a total of 700 examination centres and added that Matriculation and Inter examinations are likely to be held this year at around 1200 examination centres.
