New Delhi, Dec 16: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday recalled what the former US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, had said during her Pakistan visit in October 2021, “If you keep snakes in your backyard, you cannot expect they will bite only your neighbours.”

While responding to a question on the recent statements of Pakistan minister Hina Rabbani Khar about a dossier on India, Jaishankar went on quoting Clinton, that the snakes would eventually bite the people who had kept them at their back.

Jaishankar said he read the reports on what Rabbani Khar said, “I read the reports on what Minister Hina Rabbani Khar said. And I was reminded, more than a decade ago, my memory serves me right. Hillary Clinton was visiting Pakistan. And Hina Rabbani Khar was a minister at that time”.

“Standing next to her, Hillary Clinton actually said that if you have snakes in your backyard, you can’t expect them to bite only your neighbours. Eventually, they will bite the people who keep them in the backyard. But as you know, Pakistan is not great at taking good advice. You see what’s happening there,” said EAM.

Following his remark, Jaishankar snubbed a media person who asked him how long South Asia would see terrorism from New Delhi, Kabul and Pakistan. The minister gave a witty response to the journalist and said, “You are asking the wrong minister. It is the minister of Pakistan who will tell you how long Pakistan intends to practice terrorism.”
