Jamshedpur, Aug 16: A ground-mounted solar power project of 2MWp (Megawatt peak) capacity was commissioned in Tata Steel’s Sonari Airport at Jamshedpur.
With this move, the entire airport operations will be powered through solar energy.
This project has been commissioned by Tata Power under the larger agreement with Tata Steel for the installation of a total of 41MW with a combination of rooftop, floating and ground-mounted solar panels across its locations.
Four rooftop solar projects at Central Warehouse, Cold Rolling Mill, Wire Rod Mill and Hot Strip Mill totalling 7.65 MWp have been commissioned earlier. A floating solar power project of 10.8 MWp in Tata Steel Jamshedpur Works is also nearing completion.
At Tata Steel, sustainability has been a core principle that is embedded in its business philosophy and is backed by a long-term, holistic vision of achieving identified targets.
Several definitive steps across the value chain have been undertaken to reinforce its sustainability credentials.
In the recent past, power generation from solar and non-conventional energy sources has gained momentum across its operating locations.
