Jamshedpur, Nov 8: Thousands took a holy dip in the Subarnarekha and Kharkai rivers celebrating Kartik Purnima today.
Devotees belonging to different communities, largely women, started trickling to the Subarnarekha and Kharkai banks along the steel city before daybreak enlivening the atmosphere with an aura of religious fervour.

While the people belonging to the Bihari community took a dip before sunrise, the people belonging to the Odiya community floated paper boats with ‘diya’ and flowers on them after taking the holy dip.
Several of those who celebrated the occasion also burst crackers beside indulging in other fireworks amid the serene atmosphere.
As the rituals were in progress, the twin rivers had turned into magnificently beautiful with floating diyas spread over the water bodies to a considerable distance.

Considered to be the holiest month of the year, the Kartik month is observed for the warship of Lord Shiva and when it comes to an end in the form of Kartik Purnima, people center it by taking a dip in the river.
Significantly, the local administration had made security arrangements for the devotees who had to reach the river bank before daybreak. Police personnel, including the lady cops, were present in good numbers all along the streets as well as at the river ghats during the pious occasion.
Moreover, the day is also celebrated as Guru Purnima and the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. The people belonging to the Sikh community are to take part in a religious procession from Sakchi Gurudwara later in the day.
