Jamshedpur, Feb 11: Mediamen from the steel city and its adjoining areas will get an opportunity to display their willow power during a Media Cup cricket tournament to be played at Gopal Maidan in Bistupur between February 12 to 20.
The Press Club of Jamshedpur (PCJ) will organise the cricket tournament which will have eight teams – Dimna XI, Jubilee XI, Domuhani XI, Dalma XI, Kalimati XI, Hudco XI, Kharkai XI and Subarnarekha XI.
Preparations are in full swing with groundsmen decking up the greens and the pitch under the supervision of L. Nageshwar Rao, a Tata Steel sports wing employee and veteran karateka.
Media persons (both print and electronic) would participate in the nine-day tournament.
KVP Rao, a former Bihar Ranji Trophy captain and an ex-official of BCCI has been made the chairman of the technical sub-committee of the tournament.
Tata Steel has provided the ground and also training kits.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren is likely to attend the closing ceremony. Union tribal affairs minister Arjun Munda has confirmed his presence during the inaugural function on February 12.
Matches till the league stage would be of 15 overs while the semi-finals and final would be of 20 overs.
