New Delhi, Sept 1: Star Indian shuttler HS Prannoy resumed his unstoppable streak on Thursday by cruising into the quarterfinals of the Japan Open Super 750 competition with a brilliant straight-game victory against former world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore.
In a 44-minute second round men’s singles match, former world number 8 Prannoy defeated eighth seeded Yew 22-20 21-19. Prannoy has previously advanced to the quarterfinals of the world championships. In four encounters, Prannoy had defeated the Singaporean three times.
In the round of the final eight, the 30-year-old Indian will next compete against Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei. In their most recent meetings, Prannoy triumphed over Chen.
Later in the day, Kidambi Srikanth will take on local favourite Kanta Tsuneyama.
