Jamshedpur, May 13: The Met department has predicted a Celsius surge in Jharkhand with the maximum temperature expected to climb by three to four degrees Celsius in many parts, in the next 72-hours.

“The impact of cyclone Asani has waned. The mercury will witness a rising trend in the absence of any weather system. The north-south trough stretched between sub-Himalayan West Bengal to north Chhattisgarh has become weak. Thundershower activity might take place occasionally,” said, a senior official of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

The north-south trough was running from eastern Bihar to north Odisha about 3.1 Km above the mean sea level. On Thursday, maximum readings witnessed a rise in most places.

The Celsius is expected to rise another 3-4 degrees Celsius in the next 72-hours, weathermen in Ranchi said.

Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of around 34.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday, two notches below normal. Jamshedpur continued to record over 36 degrees Celsius for the second consecutive day.

According to the forecast, the steel city was expected to witness a three-degree rise in day temperatures in the next 48 hours or so.

Thursday’s maximum reading was two notches below normal in Jamshedpur.

In Daltonganj too the day reading witnessed a rise. The local IMD observatory in  Daltonganj recorded 41.3 degrees Celsius on Thursday. Thursday’s maximum reading in Daltonganj was one notch above normal.

Today, the day’s reading is expected to witness a one or two-degree rise at the Palamu headquarters.

Several other districts, including Hazaribagh, Koderma, Bokaro, Deoghar, Ramgarh and Dhanbad, witnessed a rising trend in maximum readings.

Weathermen said that the wind pattern over Jharkhand was fluctuating between north-westerly and westerly, which would push up the day temperature.
