Jamshedpur, Feb 16: Police and paramilitary forces recovered an IED from the Naxals- dominated Kolhan forest, giving a jolt to one of the top Naxal leaders Misir Besra who is hiding inside the sprawling forest cover.
Aimed at causing harm to the paramilitary forces, the IED was planted near Meralgeda village in the dense Kolhan forest under the Goelkera thana area.
A bomb disposal squad of the CRPF destroyed the explosive device soon after it was detected by the paramilitary forces which are inching into the forest cover spread over an area of about 650 square km.
The detection of the IED is the first sign of success by the paramilitary forces which had penetrated into the jungle periphery which is filled with IEDs planted by the rebels.
As many as 15 jawans have already sustained injuries, some of them seriously in the IED blasts ever since the police and paramilitary forces launched an operation to flush out the Naxals from the Kolhan and adjoining Porahat forest divisions.
West Singhbhum superintendent of police, Ashutosh Shekhar said the anti-insurgency operation is on and the Naxals hiding in the dense forest would be eliminated soon.
“We have succeeded in detecting an IED from the Kolhan forest by following SOP. More such explosive devices would be recovered soon,” said Shekhar while talking to lagatae24.com.
Sources revealed that the Naxals who have made the Kolhan and Porahat forest divisions like safe heaven now are going to face trouble as the paramilitary forces have also plugged the food supply line by carrying out concerted efforts.
