Ranchi, July 19: Unhappy with imposition of the GST on household items like milk, flour etc used by common people after 47th GST Council meeting, the JMM termed GST as ‘Jeena Ke Liye Sanso Par Tax’.

Party general secretary and spokesperson of ruling party Supriyo Bhattacharya shared the party view on the issue organising a press conference at party office and explained how the full form of GST (good and service tax) has different meaning for the party.

He mocked the union government for levying higher GST on items of common people’s use while levying the less GST on luxurious items.

“Have you ever thought that there will be GST on rice if purchased more than 50 kg and GST on rice purchased less than 50kg,” Bhattacharya asked presenting some data related to imposition of GST.

Bhattacharya explained how the new GST provision will make stationery items for children, movement of road and agriculture practice costly in the country while making purchase of luxurious items cheaper. He also explained how transparent transactions through banks will become costly for common people.

He, on the occasion, said the policy has been formulated in such a way that people like Gautam Adani has become the fourth richest person of the world while middle class Indians are suffering.

Every state of the country including Jharkhand is the member of the GST council and thus explaining how the council approved the new GST, Bhattacharya said: “Objection raised by non-BJP ruled states including Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal and some others were not entertained.”
