New Delhi: After the all-party meeting convened over Operation Sindoor, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said it was unfortunate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not attend. He stated that the PM should have been present to share firsthand how India acted against terrorism and to brief leaders about the operation.
Opposition United, Wants PM to Lead from Front
Kharge said, “We wanted the Prime Minister to be present and briefly explain how India responded to terrorism. Our soldiers have shown great courage, and we salute them. It would have been beneficial for all parties if the PM had personally addressed us.” He also recalled that the PM was absent in the previous all-party meeting too, calling it disappointing.
Kharge added that the INDIA bloc and other opposition parties expressed their full support for the government and armed forces, stating clearly, “Go ahead, we are with you.” He reiterated that all parties stand firmly with the Indian military and welcome the PM’s declaration of full operational freedom to the army.
Call for Parliamentary Session and Civilian Protection
During the meeting, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh urged leaders not to raise questions linked to defence secrets. Kharge said the opposition respected the sensitivity of the moment and refrained from pressing on classified matters.
However, he emphasized the need for greater security at the borders and better care for the families of those killed in the Pahalgam attack. “The government must prioritize the safety of civilians in Kashmir,” he said.
Rahul Gandhi, also present at the meeting, called for convening a special session of Parliament, saying it would send a strong message to the world and reassure the Indian public of national unity and resolve.
