Daltonganj, Dec 15: In a heart-wrenching incident, a leopard killed and ate half of the body of a five-year-old boy in the Bhandariya block of Garhwa district on Wednesday evening.
The jungle where the incident took place is 10 km away from the Mandal dam, outside the Kutku range of the Palamu tiger reserve.
Conservator of forest Palamu Kumar Ashish said the DFO South division of Gharhwa Shashi Kumar confirmed the incident. He said the PTR has an automatic cage which can be put to use to contain the leopard.
As per information, the chief wildlife warden of Jharkhand is the sole authority to pass appropriate orders to contain the wildlife which poses threat to human life.
This leopard had made two more bids on the life of human beings recently and in the third attempt, it took a toll on the boy.
Ashish said there is no possibility of Ukamaar leopard striking in the Bhandariya as the distance between the two is too big for any leopard to cover.
Garhwa Civil surgeon Dr Anil Kumar said nearly half of the body of the boy left by the leopard which it could not consume was sent to Garhwa Sadar hospital for postmortem. A 3-member team headed by surgeon Dr Amit Kumar will carry out the procedure. It is up to the team to decide if a postmortem can be performed on the half-body here or not. If not, then it would be sent to RIMS Ranchi.
