License/registration mandatory for wholesalers and retailers of food business

Ramgarh, Sept 11: Designated officer-cum-Sub-Divisional Officer, Ramgarh Md. Javed Hussain has instructed all the food traders of Ramgarh district to get food license and registration at the earliest.

As per the notice, under section 31 of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, it is mandatory for retailers, wholesalers, distributors, producers, hotels, restaurants, dabas, caterers, ration shops and sweets shops, poultry and meat shops to have a food license and registration. Fruit and vegetable vendors, liquor shopkeepers, canteens, and all kinds of stall operators operating in government and non-government premises that sell food products need the licence.

Officials have announced that anyone that does not have said licence and registration documents may either be heavily fined or punished for the same. All the shop owners that are yet to apply for registration can apply for the same online. The application can be filled at www.foscos.fssai.gov.in.

The fee for applying for an online Food License (for Annual Turnover above 12 lakhs) is Rs.2000-3000 / year. Food Registration (for Annual turnover up to 12 lakhs) is Rs.100 / year

Notably, operation of a food industry without food license / registration is a punishable offense, under section-63 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Here, there is a provision of imprisonment for six months and fine up to Rs 5 lakh.  For more information, the Food Safety Branch can be contacted on the helpline no- 06553222005 released by the sub-divisional office, Ramgarh.
