Ranchi, Oct 8: A man set her 4-year-old daughter on fire at Barnag, a village about 20 km from district headquarters under the Kisko police station area of Lohardaga district.

A local resident informed about the incident saying it was getting around 9 pm on Friday when the man, Pappu Turi, committed the crime after some altercation with her wife.

“After the altercation, the man attempted to stab his wife. When she managed to escape, he set her 4-year-old daughter on fire by pouring kerosene oil on her. After committing the crime, the man escaped. Later, villagers rescued the girl and admitted her to a local hospital for treatment with 80 per cent burn. The child was later referred to RIMS Ranchi for better treatment,” said the resident.

Asked about the reason behind the altercation, the resident said: “The man was suspicious about his wife’s illicit relationship.”

Lohardaga Superintendent of Police (SP) R Ramkumar could not be contacted for his comment. Inspector of the Kisko area, Mantu Kumar, confirmed the incident but expressed his inability to provide any reason behind the incident.

“The man was drunk when he committed the crime. He escaped after the incident. We are looking for him. Once we catch him and take his statement, we will be able to comment on the reason behind the incident,” Inspector Kumar said.
