Prayagraj: With the Mahakumbh 2025 set to commence on January 13, Uttar Pradesh has rolled out extensive security arrangements to manage the influx of over 45 crore pilgrims expected for the religious gathering. The event, held once every 12 years at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers, will conclude on February 26.

Robust Security Framework

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued directives for a comprehensive security strategy. As part of the plan, the state police, under Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar, has implemented a multi-layered “impenetrable security chakravyuh” to safeguard attendees and key locations like temples and akhadas.

Highlights of the security arrangements include:

•Personnel Deployment: Over 1,000 police officers, including 71 inspectors, 234 sub-inspectors, 645 constables, and 113 Home Guards/PRD jawans, are actively monitoring the event.

•Surveillance Systems: 2,700 AI-enabled cameras and 113 underwater drones have been deployed to enhance monitoring, while five Vajra vehicles and 10 drones patrol the area around the clock.

•Checkpoints: 102 checkpoints have been established along seven critical routes connecting Prayagraj with neighboring regions to facilitate checks on vehicles and individuals.

Technology and Specialized Forces

To ensure safety and preparedness, mock drills have been conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Police in collaboration with the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), National Security Guard (NSG), and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). Advanced technology, such as underwater drones, has been integrated to monitor waterways, ensuring comprehensive surveillance.

Key Rituals and Significance

The Mahakumbh is known for its main bathing rituals, or Shahi Snan, scheduled on the following auspicious dates:

•Makar Sankranti: January 14

•Mauni Amavasya: January 29

•Basant Panchami: February 3

This grand event celebrates faith, culture, and spirituality, drawing millions of devotees from across the globe to Prayagraj.

A Global Religious Phenomenon

The Mahakumbh 2025 is expected to be one of the largest gatherings in history, underlining the significance of the Sangam as a sacred site. The event’s robust security measures and use of cutting-edge technology reflect Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to ensuring a safe and seamless experience for all attendees.
