Man kills grandfather for intervening in quarrel with wife in Dumka

Dumka, Nov.30: An old man was killed by his grandson for attempting to save his granddaughter-in-law from the rage of her husband. The incident took place in Chhoti Purnea village under Jama police station of the district on Tuesday where the old man was beaten to death with a bamboo.

 

The deceased has been identified as Sanpati Layak who died on the spot after he was hit by his grandson (son of his daughter) Jaikishan Layak on the head with a bamboo as the former attempted to free latter’s wife from his clutches.

 

“The accused Jaikishan Layak of Reda village under Ramgarh police station of the district resided at his maternal grandparents’ home in Chhoti Purnea village. He was quarrelling with his wife Jamuni Devi on Tuesday over some issue and later started beating up his wife prompting his grandfather to intervene and save her. This got Jaikishan infuriated and he hit his grandfather on the head with the same bamboo, resulting in his death on the spot,” the officer in-charge (OC) of the Jama police station Jitendra Kumar said.

 

The accused escaped from home after realizing about the death of his grandfather.

Dead body of the deceased has been sent to the Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital (PJMCH) for postmortem. Attempts to arrest the accused grandson are on, the OC informed.
