Chennai, Nov 5: MS Dhoni filed a contempt lawsuit against IPS officer G Sampath Kumar at the Madras High Court. Due to time constraints, it was not pursued yesterday, but the case may be brought up again on Tuesday. The lawsuit relates to comments made by the officer who looked into the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL) betting and spot-fixing incident.

According to Sampath Kumar, Dhoni took part in the 2013 IPL match-fixing and betting controversy.

After making the statement, Dhoni sued Sampath and a private TV network for defamation. The former captain of the Indian cricket team asked the court for help in 2021 to stop Sampath and others from disparaging him.

Back then, the Madras High Court issued an interim order prohibiting Sampath and the other participants in the lawsuit from speaking negatively about Dhoni.

But it was discovered that Sampath had submitted a written statement in December 2021 asking for the defamation lawsuit to be dismissed.

The new contempt of court complaint lodged by the former captain of the Indian cricket team concerns Sampath’s written response from December 2021. According to Dhoni, the officer’s comments about him were defamatory and would constitute contempt of court because the court had issued an interim injunction.
