Daltonganj, July 9: The urban development and housing department of the Jharkhand government has sanctioned four pink buses for the Medinirai Municipal Corporation but has not given any separate allotment for them.

The urban development and housing department has asked the corporation to purchase the pink buses from the urban transportation fund only. This means that the fund that comes for the urban transportation fund which is spent on urban roads, laying of paver blocks, bituminization of roads etc will have to be put off for buying these 4 pink buses.

City Commissioner Sameera S, an IAS officer, confirmed that the state urban development and housing department government of Jharkhand has not given any extra funds to buy these 4 pink buses.

Sameera S agreed buying pink buses will mean restricting urban transportation work.

“We are weighing the prospect and utility of the pink buses here that too 4 in a place like Medinirai municipal corporation. The number of working women, number of girls and women commuting from home to offices, schools, colleges, hospitals and nursing homes, railway station and bus stand all will have to be assessed,” the IAS officer said.

Sources said it will be in the fitness of thing to start with just one pink bus to see how it goes about and serves the purpose of which it is so labelled as a pink bus.

Sameera S said all aspects of the pink buses would be thoroughly and passionately taken into account before going to any gala over it.

A joint secretary-level officer in the urban development and housing department has sent a letter regarding the 4 pink buses to the city commissioner of Medinirai municipal corporation.

However, euphoria has been created that Mayor Aruna Shankar and Deputy Mayor Mangal Singh along with the councillors have won the sanctioning of 4 pink buses in the Medinirai municipal corporation without realising the fact that funds meant for urban transportation would be used for these pink buses as no extra penny has been given to the corporation for it.

The proposal for the pink bus here was sent to the urban development and housing department in mid-May this year from this commissionary hoping the fund for it to come separately but the department tagged it to Shahri Pariwahan only. There is no word for the logistics like driver, conductor, safety officer, electronic gadgets etc in the pink buses.
