Lucknow, April 19: In the wake of recent incidences of violence during festivals in some states, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has mandated that no religious procession be brought out without permission, and that the use of loudspeakers should not cause disruption to others.
With the Eid and Akshaya Tritiya celebrations expected to fall on the same day next month, as well as a slew of other festivities coming up in the coming weeks, Adityanath said the police must be particularly vigilant. During a law and order review meeting with senior authorities here on Monday, he stated that everyone has the freedom to worship according to their religious ideology.
“Although mics can be used, make sure the sound does not come out of any premises. Other people should not face any problem,” he said.
“No religious procession should be taken out without due permission. Before giving permission, an affidavit should be taken from the organiser regarding the maintenance of peace and harmony,” he added.
The directives come in the wake of violence at a Hanuman Jayanti parade in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri neighbourhood on Saturday, as well as reports of violence at Ram Navami rallies in Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Gujarat, and West Bengal.
He also told officials that religious programmes and worship should take place only in specified areas, and that no religious event should be staged in a way that disrupts roads or traffic. All police and administrative officers’ leaves have been cancelled until May 4, and those on leave have been requested to return within 24 hours.
