The resolution to approve the annual budget for NSS was taken in the meeting of the advisory committee of NSS held in the conference hall of YSNM college Daltonganj on Monday.

Vice-Chancellor of NPU Dr Ram Lakhan Singh presided over the meeting which was attended by the Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Deep Narayan Yadav, state co-ordinator of NSS Dr Brajesh Kumar, university co-ordinator Dr Vibhesh Choubey, Principal Dr I J Khalkho, Principal Dr R P Singh, professor in charge of the YSNM college Dr Mohini Gupta, Registrar Dr Rakesh Kumar, Finance Officer A K Vaid, CCDC Dr A K Pandey, Prof Kamlesh Sinha, Prof Nawal Kishore, Rajesh Singh and others.
A press note issued by the NPU read the vice-chancellor Dr Ram Lakhan Singh has laid stress on the proactive role of the NSS volunteers.
The press note further quoting the VC read that the Coronavirus pandemic did act as a brake on outfield work for the NSS but the tempo of the social service has to be activated, accelerated and energised.

The VC is understood to have emphasised on awareness campaigns to be launched by the NSS volunteers for schemes and projects of the central government and state government among the masses so that people for whom the schemes and projects are, deliverance from it comes to them without any hassle.
NPU co-ordinator of NSS Dr Vibhesh Choubey said the focus is twofold. One is Nasha Mukti Abhiyan and the other is blood donation. Nasha Mukti Abhiyan is a government of India’s drive against substance abuse.
Dr Choubey agreed that the Coronavirus pandemic has slowed down the pace of the blood donation zeal among the eligibles. “We would be striving to increase the holding of blood donations in times to come,” he added.
Two colleges of NPU, Mazdoor Kisan degree college at Panki and the other A K Singh college at Hussainabad have won laurels for their NSS activities, according to university sources. YSNM college Daltonganj too fares well claimed university sources.
NSS is still considered as something appendixed to the main academic course while attempts ought to be made to make NSS a career-oriented affair, opined many NPU students.
Students further argued that a certificate of NSS should be taken as the first big step for rural development, drinking water, public health, school education, rural connectivity etc.
Many students suggested that NSS should expand its vision and scope by roping in issues with which the world and India grapple with, such as the issue of climate change, disaster management etc instead of still holding overheard and discussed issues.
