Dumka, Oct.18: Marking significant deterioration in the law and order situation in the sub capital town, three armed miscreants made a futile attempt to rob a jewelry shop at the busy Marwari Chowk in broad daylight today.

Two brothers owning the jewelry shop namely Ganpati Jewellers have received minor injuries as the miscreants who had arrived on a bike and entered the shop by pretending to be customers, fired shots after being resisted by them.

“They initially asked for some jewelry item to be shown to them for purchasing and suddenly raised the gun pointing my chest,” Vijay Verma, owner of the jewelry shop said who received a minor scratch from the bullet in his left hand as the fire was shot by one of the robbers after realizing that they have been overpowered.

Vijay’s younger brother has also received minor injuries in the scuffle with the robbers. One of the robbers was caught by them and severely beaten up by locals before being handed over to the police that arrived after getting the information of daylight robbery in the heart of the town.  The other two robbers managed to escape even before anyone outside the shop could realise anything.

“Attempts are being made to nab both the absconding robbers,” said DSP (headquarter) Noor Mustafa, adding that the arrested robber was rushed to the hospital for treatment and that he was yet to be identified.
