Daltonganj, Feb 12: Chainpur police in Palamu have reached very near the cracking of the murder case of a migrant woman worker.
Uday Kumar Gupta, the officer in charge of the Chainpur police station said, “We had found the body of a 30-year-old woman in the jungle of Lohar Seemi on February 10.”
The villagers had first discovered her dead in the jungle and had informed the police about the incident.
According to police, she was gagged to death. She had a dark band across her neck. Her dupatta was used to kill her.
The woman was identified as Gayatri Devi. She was a resident of Mahuadanr block in the Latehar district.
Her father Ram Chander Baraik had lodged the FIR with the Chainpur police station. He has named the accused as Abhay Kumar Pal of the village Burhi Beer under this police station.
Police officer Gupta informed that the deceased woman had been discarded by her husband. Her marriage had collapsed in 2016 after four years of the wedding. She had a daughter whom she did not keep with herself.
She came in contact with Abhay Kumar Pal also and made pressure on him to marry her but Pal was not ready to oblige.
She had reportedly threatened Pal with the dire consequences of the criminal case. She even went to Pal’s native block Paton and there she went to the local police to file a criminal case against him.
“This might have upset Pal and forced him to get rid of this woman and he resorted to her gagging,” said Gupta.
Police have now circumstantial evidence to support its contention that this Pal strangulated her to death to save himself from her continuous prodding for the marriage.
“We found her phone and that helped us a lot. There were many texts in it which finally helped us to know about Abhay Kumar Pal,” the police officer said.
The deceased had a cell phone which police are yet to recover.
Meanwhile, Pal has gone into hiding. Efforts are on to nab him, according to Gupta.
