The ministry announced that 400 ‘ragis’ (Sikh musicians) will perform in a ‘Shabad Kirtan’ to commemorate the anniversary. The Ministry of Culture will host the event in partnership with the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee. The celebrations will include Chief Ministers from a number of states as well as a number of notable figures from across the subcontinent and internationally, according to the statement.

PM Modi will be joined by Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the ceremony, which will take place on April 20-21. On April 20, Amit Shah will begin the programme.

As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, this ceremony commemorates Sikh guru Tegh Bahadur’s 400th Parkash Purab (birth anniversary). Notably Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh guru, was born in Amritsar in the year 1621. Mughal ruler Aurangzeb assassinated him in Delhi in 1675. On the site of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s execution, the famed Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib was built near the Red Fort.
