Ranchi, March 1: A body with its throat slit was today recovered from a playground in Purani Ranchi under the Kotwali police station area in the heart of the Jharkhand capital.
It was identified as Chotu, a resident of Khet Mohalla released five days ago from the jail where he was sent after police arrested him for attacking a youth Aftab with a knife.
Officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station Shailesh Kumar confirmed the recovery saying that the murder is the outcome of personnel rivalry.
A police official supported him sharing the background of Chotu.
“Chotu following some dispute attacked Aftab. Police arrested him in this connection. He had been released from jail five days ago. On Monday evening some of Aftab’s friends called him. After Chotu went out in the evening asking his mother to have supper together he did not return. This morning his body was recovered. Thus it is being suspected that he was killed in rivalry. However, a conclusive statement can be given in the matter only after someone is arrested,” the police official said.
A resident of Purani Ranchi said that the person killed was a drug addict having a friendship with other addicts. “The incident is the outcome of the rising habit of drug addiction among youths of Khet Mohalla and other parts of the city. The police instead of taking it as a matter of personal rivalry should take it as a matter of drug addiction and take strong action against drug addicts,” he said.
