New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence and attacks on minority communities in Bangladesh, particularly targeting Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists. In a statement shared on X, she condemned the disturbing reports and urged the interim government to take immediate steps to ensure the safety of all citizens.

“The news of continuous attacks on minorities in neighbouring Bangladesh is disturbing. Discrimination, violence, and attacks based on religion, caste, language, or identity are unacceptable in any civilised society,” Priyanka Gandhi posted in Hindi. She emphasized the importance of protecting the rights and dignity of all communities, regardless of their religious or cultural background.

Priyanka Gandhi’s remarks come in the wake of escalating political unrest in Bangladesh, which has claimed over 500 lives since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government last week. The violence has disproportionately affected Hindu communities, with reports of vandalism at temples, assaults on women, and the killing of Hindu leaders affiliated with the Awami League party.

In response to the violence, Bangladesh’s interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, has called for a meeting with Hindu students and community members to address their concerns. Reports indicate that there have been at least 205 incidents of attacks on minority communities across 52 districts since August 5. Minority groups in Bangladesh are now demanding the implementation of laws to protect their rights, with Hindu student groups presenting an eight-point list of demands to Yunus.

Priyanka Gandhi expressed hope that the situation in Bangladesh would stabilize soon and that the interim government would take decisive action to protect the safety and rights of Hindus, Christians, Buddhists, and other minority groups in the country.
