Ramgarh, Aug 25: DAV Barkakana on Thursday felicitated Commonwealth Games star Rupa Rani Tirkey, who won the gold medal in lawn bowls and Praveen Kumar, gold medalist in national level kickboxing competition held in Chennai.
Rupa Rani Tirkey is the sports officer of Ramgarh district and Praveen Kumar also trains the children of DAV Barkakana in boxing.
School Principal cum Regional Officer Dr Urmila Singh welcomed both medal winners by providing them with saplings. She honoured Rupa Rani with a shawl and memento and Praveen Kumar with a tracksuit and memento.
Talking about the journey of Tirkey, stage director Sanjay Kumar asked the children to take inspiration from the struggles of their lives. He said that by defeating the legend of Haryana in the quarterfinals, Manipur in the semifinals and Kerala in the finals, Praveen Kumar brought laurels to the state and the country.
On this occasion, Rupa Rani Tirkey, while telling the mantra of success to the children, said that they can be successful only with patience, discipline and diligence.
The principal asked the children of the school to take inspiration and expressed hope that the children of DAV Barkakana would also one day bring gold medals for the country and increase the honour of the school, the state and the country.
