MANOJ SINHA

Ramgarh, Aug 13: Two wild elephants fell into a farmland well in a maize field in Purbadih village of Gola block under Ramgarh district late on Friday night.  The duo was pulled out safely after a lot of effort.

The villagers said, “A herd of wild elephants entered the maize field of Purbadih resident farmer Bhagirath Mahto at night and was busy grazing corn. Meanwhile, two of them fell into a wide well.”

The villagers informed the forest department and a Quick Response Team reached the spot and after about three hours of hard work, took out both the elephants safely at midnight.

Rural areas of the Gola block and other parts of the district are often affected by elephant herds.

These herds create a ruckus by attacking villagers, and damaging houses. Villagers complain that they ruin their crops too.

A month ago, a minor elephant had fallen into a well in Gola. It was brought out safely by the forest department team after hours of effort.
