Ranchi, Jan 3: The relatives of 69-year-old Surendra Prasad, a resident of Mecon Colony, Doranda have donated his body for the studies of medical students at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
Notably, Prasad’s body was handed over to the Anatomy Department of RIMS at 11 am on Tuesday.
Moreover, Prasad was employed with Hindustan Motors in West Bengal and lived with his brother in Ranchi after retirement. He had a long-standing desire that his body should be donated after his death.
He used to say that if his body becomes useful after his death, then this would be true salvation. While associated with social service, he cremated about 55 unclaimed dead bodies. He passed away on Monday. After this, his body was handed over to RIMS as per his wish.
His body will be used to teach anatomy to MBBS first-year students. In the Department of Anatomy, students will be given external, internal and microscopic studies of the body.
The body donation form is available on the RIMS website. People willing to donate can fill this form in two sets and submit it at RIMS. An ambulance is sent from RIMS on receiving information about the death of one of the people taking the pledge. Not a single rupee is taken from the family members for this work.
So far, 37 people have taken the pledge of body donation in RIMS and six bodies have been received by RIMS.
