Ranchi: Six vendors in Bundu fined Rs. 25,000 for adulterated food

Ranchi, Mar 11: With the arrival of the season of Holi, the Ranchi district food safety officer has swung into action where the food vendors and restaurants of Bundu were thoroughly checked for any kind of adulteration in the food.

As many as six food vendors and restaurants were charged with a total fine of Rs 25,000 for not maintaining cleanliness, absence of license number, presence of starch in the milk products and colour adulteration.

District Food Safety Officer Subir Ranjan said that in view of the upcoming festival, an investigation of food is being done to protect the people of the district from getting any kind of adulterated food.

“During the season of festivals the demand for food items goes high for which the vendors tend to use adulteration to fulfil the demand, but we with our mobile food testing labs are active to deal with such cases. All the six food vendors accepted their mistake and have pledged to not use any kind of adulteration in future,” Ranjan said.

“In the absence of awareness two vendors were found adding colour to the food which was properly explained about the hazardous impact of the colour upon human beings when colour adulterated food is consumed. The food prepared was destroyed on the spot and they pledged to not use artificial food colour in the food,” Ranjan further said.

“From tomorrow the food samples will be tested in the Ranchi city also and the vendors not abiding by the food security act will be fined,” Ranjan added.

SDO Bundu and District Food Safety Officer jointly conducted the raid over the food vendors of Bundu.
