Sunak (42) took over as Conservative Party leader yesterday after his former employer Boris Johnson abandoned his attempt to make a return and his competitor Penny Mordaunt was unable to win enough support from Conservative MPs.
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Indian descent is the country’s youngest leader in 200 years.

Last month, Liz Truss defeated Rishi Sunak for the position of Conservative Party leader. Truss afterwards officially assumed the role of UK prime minister. Truss was only in office for 45 days when he was forced to leave because he was unable to quickly resolve the country’s crisis. And this time, the Conservative Party supported MP Rishi Sunak, who is of Indian descent, for the top position.
Following Liz Truss’ resignation as prime minister of the UK, the Conservative party hastily called for a fast-track election, in which Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt competed for the top spot. This was perceived as the Conservative party’s attempt to avoid postponing the elections in light of the erratic market conditions.
