Ranchi, June 9: The Income Tax department on Thursday seized Rs. 50 lakh during a raid against Ranchi-based businessman Puneet Poddar, his Chartered Accountant Naresh Kumar Kejriwal, and other business associates. The seizure amount may increase as the operation is underway.
Raids were carried out at a dozen locations in Ranchi and Kolkata. Besides, the IT team also recovered a number of documents.
The IT team is said to have also started a search at the locations of Puneet Poddar’s associate Arun Rajgadhia. The IT team started the operation in the morning at the official and residential premises of Puneet Poddar, Naresh Kejriwal and others on Kanke Road, Upper Bazaar, Church Complex as well as locations in Kolkata. The team from Jamshedpur and other units of IT have been drawn for the operation. The search team is said to have taken possession of various documents including that of business firm Babulal Premkumar owned by Punit Poddar.
Babulal Premkumar is the oldest business firm of the Poddar family which deals in clothes. Punit Poddar mainly deals in the automobile and garment industry.
