Ranchi, May 19: The Ranchi University (RU) signed two MoUs on Thursday for starting a new course in Cyber Security and to deal with the large amounts of scrap gathered in RU colleges all over the state.
The university signed one MoU jointly with the Cyber Peace Foundation and the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE); while the other MoU was signed with the Metal Scrap Trade Corporation (MSTC).
The MoU with the Cyber Peace foundation and IETE aims to set up a centre of excellence for Cyber Security in RU. Keeping in mind the status of the state in case of cyber crime, the MoU will work to develop a certificate and diploma course in Cyber Security for all who want to join.
Talking in this regard, Cyber Peace foundation representative Major Vineet said, “IETE and our team wants to set up an ecosystem of cyber security that will also work to hone and train students along with creating a safe atmosphere for research in the field. We have plans to research on the national level along with short and long term courses.”
The representative of IETE added, “Cyber being a major crime issue, we face a lot of risks, because life without the internet is unimaginable, thus we need to prepare ourselves. In future, we will not openly train students or job aspirants, but aim to train other officials, including police, teachers, bankers, and journalists.”
The RU is to set up a framework under which the IETE and Cyber Peace will make syllabi for 6-month certificate and one-year diploma add-on courses. The focus group selected by RU for the courses involve students of Physics, Mathematics, MCA among others, however, all students interested in the field will be welcome.
Explaining this, RU PRO Pritam said, “NEP 2020 is accommodating enough to allow students of varying streams try any kind of course that they are interested in. We hope that similar to the NEP implementation plan by RU, this initiative will also be adopted by other universities.”
Furthermore, explaining the idea behind this initiative Major Vineet added, “We want to give a platform to students to hone their skills along with spreading awareness regarding cyber security. Students in the coming times will have a wide range of opportunities related to cyber security due to skill shortage, which they will be able to use if they bank on the training.”
The other MoU signed by RU with MSTC, aims to clear all kinds of scrap from all colleges under RU. The scrap will involve a range of varied items including electronic, metallic, non metallic, wooden items, etc.
Explaining the plan of RU, representatives said, “There is a lot of scrap that is gathered in the university, be it old systems, other electronics, billing pages, old answer sheets, question papers, metals, cars and other vehicles, cartridges, even old buildings that need to be cleared out among other things.”
Further explaining the role of colleges, the RU PRO said that after the MoU is signed the university will have a physical assessment of the colleges like Ram Lakhan College among others. The RU also plans to ask principals to declare all kinds of scrap in their premises, which will then be checked and then auctioned out online.
When asked of the colleges that have a maximum amount of scrap at the moment, the university officials said that the assessment regarding this will be done later.
Speaking in this regard, the MSTC representative said, “We initially buy the products and then auction it on our website in an open manner, making it available for observation, both by our sellers and buyers. After the MoU is signed, RU will be our seller and we will create a seller id for the university on the portal. We will then create a catalogue and give a 21 day gap for bidders to inspect items and make purchases accordingly.”
