Jamshedpur, Oct 5: The security of passengers in the long and short-distance trains would be beefed up under the Chakradharpur and Ranchi divisions of the South Eastern Railway (SER).
Officials of the Railway Protection Force ( RPF ) said the number of jawans in the moving trains would be increased as a run-up to the festival.
” The RPF jawans have been scouting in moving trains but their figures are not impressive keeping in mind the requirement of the division,” said an official.
Recently DB Kaskar, RPF IG who is also the chief security commissioner of South Eastern Railway was in steel city for reviewing security measures at Tatanagar railway station.
Sources said, previously, the Railway Protection Force had extended security to limited railway stations under the Chakradharpur and Ranchi divisions.
But, now the security spectrum has been extended to a great extent and smaller stations, too, have been covered.
The Tatanagar railway station which witnesses a daily footfall of around 50,000 passengers is the busiest station under the South Eastern Railway zone.
The station assumes significance as it falls on the Howrah -Mumbai mainline.
Around 90 mail, express, superfast and high profile trains like Duronto and Rajdhani pass through Tatanagar railway station.
But, because of the pandemic currently around 30 passenger trains crisscross the railway station.
RPF officials said that vigil on night trains would be increased. Moreover, sniffer dogs would be pressed apart from ensuring proper scanning of passengers along with their luggage.
