Jamshedpur, Aug 29: A 13-year-old boy who was a student of Basic School, Adityapur drowned in a lake under Gamharia thana area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district about 8 km away from here on Tuesday afternoon.

Identified as Shubhankar Mondal, the drowning victim was a class VIII student in the Basic School and would reside at Baskonagar in Adityapur.

Shubhankar had come out of his classroom along with his few friends a little before the lunch break and had gone over to the lake situated in the Adityapur industrial area to take a bath.

As the boys had taken a plunge into the water body for the bath, Shubhankar drowned. Seeing the boy drowning, some people who were also taking a bath there came to his rescue but it was too late.

The local residents took the boy from the lake and rushed him to a nearby government-run health hub where the doctors declared him dead.

The health hub authority subsequently informed the victim’s parents and also the police regarding the tragedy.

OC, Adityapur Thana, Rajan Kumar Singh confirmed the drowning death of the school boy.

“An inquest is being prepared for the postmortem of the body though it is undoubtedly a drowning case,” said Singh while talking to lagatar24.com.

It may be mentioned here that in the absence of tap water at home, many people including children in the Adityapur municipal corporation area have to take baths in ponds, lakes or the Kharkai river risking their lives and are meeting their tragic end.
