Dhanbad, May 19: The Jharkhand Sikh Welfare Society has shot off a letter to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, demanding the immediate constitution of a ‘State Minority Commission’ in the interest of the people.
Sewa Singh, Jharkhand Sikh Welfare Society president, in the memorandum to the CM, said that Minority Commission is functioning in all states of the country to solve the problems of minorities. But in Jharkhand, the Commission is defunct since 2020.
“For the last two years, minorities have been suffering even to find solutions for minor problems due to the absence of ‘State Minority Commission’. It (Commission) is the need of the hour for the people of the state as well as the coal and steel belt. So, in the interest of the Sikh community, constitute the Commission as soon as possible,” said Sewa Singh.
He also pointed out that if there was a ‘State Minority Commission‘ in the state, action would have been taken against the guilty persons of Saraswati Vidya Mandir Dugdha (Bokaro) where a Sikh student was insulted. The Sikh community of Jharkhand feels hurt by the incident.
Notably, a class 10th Sikh student named Karandeep Singh was forced to lay down his Kirpan before entering the examination hall at Saraswati Vidya Mandir on May 13. However, the principal of the school tendered an apology from the community the next day.
Sikh Welfare Society president also met Jharia MLA cum chief whip of Congress Purnima Singh and requested her to initiate steps at her level for the commission. She assured him that she would bring the issue in cognizance of the chief minister and the commission would be constituted soon.
