Dhanbad, Nov 8: Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad, the principal of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad, is under the scanner of the health department for his underperformance.
A highly-placed official in the state health department said that Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Health Arun Kumar Singh has given him two months till December to improve his performance in the institution.
The official sources said that at a review meeting of the principal and superintendent of five state medical colleges held at Ranchi on November 4, the ACS took serious note of the SNMMCH principal’s underperformance and expressed his resentment. At the meeting, the ACS asked him to improve his working style by December.
The ACS looked so infuriated by Dr Prasad at the meeting that he even warned him in the presence of all principals and superintendents that he would not get any Kavach (shield) now for his underperformance in college anymore.
Sources said that the ACS resents the SNMMCH principal as he was out of the institution when on September 29 Arun Kumar Singh (ACS health) visited the Dhanbad medical college to address the problems of the hospital and restore the 100 MBBS seats.
Barring Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital Dumka, ACS Arun Kumar Singh has so far visited all four medical colleges MGMMCH Jamshedpur, MMCH Daltonganj.
In course of his mission, the ACS visited the Dhanbad medical college on September 29 but principal Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad was on two days’ leave. Superintendent Dr Arun Kumar Baranwal made him aware of the development in the hospital as well as the problem being faced by it.
However, when the ACS inquired about the problems of the college, principal Dr Prasad was absent. The principal in charge Dr BC Banerjee showed him the leave application of Dr Prasad.
It is said that when the principal returned from leave, he did not call the ACS which made Arun Kumar Singh upset and reportedly he pointed out it at the meeting.
Earlier, Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad was the head of the department pathology at SNMMCH. In July 2019, he was made the principal of Palamu Medical College and in August 2021, he was transferred to SNMMCH as principal.
