Daltonganj, Nov 21: Three ultras of the JJMP outfit were killed today in a daylight encounter with the Latehar district Special Assault Team in the forest of Bendi in Latehar district, about 100 km from Ranchi.

The team recovered 2 Insas rifles and 1 SLR from the extremists.

The encounter broke out around 3.30 pm today when the Special Assault Team was out scouring the Bendi forest. As per sources, it took place after police came closer to extremists after getting information about presence of JJMP supremo Pappu Lohar with his squad in the said forest. A police official said it were extremists who opened fire compelling security personnel to retaliate. Those killed are yet to be identified.

DIG STF Anoop Birtharay confirmed the casualties of the JJMP ultras and recovery of weapons. Latehar SP Anjani Anjan said the search operation was still going on.

Further details are awaited.
