Ranchi, Feb.11: Hearing a PIL raising concern over the depleting water level and encroachment around water bodies in Jharkhand capital, the Jharkhand High Court today took strong exception to the government’s attitude of not giving a clear-cut reply on the work done to remove encroachment from the areas around water bodies.

The court taking strong exception directed the state to give a specific reply in the matter.

The court expressed its displeasure as the matter was being heard by it for the last many months. In September last year when the court had taken up the matter, the government and Ranchi Municipal Corporation had sought time of six months to remove the encroachment. The court had granted the time. Out of six months, five months have passed and thus the court wanted to know the progress.

While hearing the petition, an intervention petition was also filed regarding the water bodies of Deoghar. The court accepted the same.

The court fixed the date of hearing in the matter on February 24.
